Health Careers students vie for photo contest win, help support Child Abuse Prevention Month

Donned in blue scrubs and blue surgical gloves, fourteen juniors in the Health Careers I class at the Coshocton County Career Center pose, along with their instructor, Joetta Teckmeyer, for a photo,  which was entered in the Coshocton County Job and Family Services photo contest, designed to support National Child Abuse Prevention Month. According to contest rules, the more blue shown in the photograph, the better the chance of winning.

Juniors in Joetta Teckmeyer’s Health Careers class at the Coshocton County Career Center had fun posing for a photo in which they all wore blue, in order to support National Child Abuse Prevention month.  The campaign to wear blue to work or school took place Wednesday, April 11th and was sponsored by Coshocton County Job and Family Services.

Students head into break with apparel enthusiasm

Spring is in the air and officers in the Career Center’s Student Council decided to add a little fun to the short school week leading into the Easter weekend and the school’s scheduled spring break.  They sponsored three dress-up days, encouraging student to dress in their pajamas on Monday, in camouflage clothing on Tuesday, and as their favorite teacher on Wednesday.

Many students took advantage of the opportunity to be silly and make a dramatic statement by their attire.

Student ambassadors help South Lawn sixth-graders build first resume

South Lawn sixth-graders Destiny Williams and Erica McKnew show off their first resumes, built with the help of Brianna Arnold, Coshocton County Career Center Student Ambassador and a senior in the Natural Resources program.  Students used My First Resume, a tool that helped them translate their interests, skills and experiences into a personal resume.  The exercise was part of a 2-hour career exploration event conducted at the school, Friday, March 23

Working in conjunction with South Lawn Elementary School sixth-grade teacher Tony Meiser, three student ambassadors from the Coshocton County Career Center helped twenty-three youth’s explore future careers and create their first resumes.  The two hour activity, conducted at South Lawn on Friday, March 23, was designed to help the students begin understanding how their likes and experiences could be used and applied to a possible career.

Career Center earns Gold from United Way

Career Center hosts annual blood drive

Health Careers and Culinary Arts students once again helped with the Coshocton County Career Center’s annual Red Cross Blood Drive.  The drive has been an annual event since the early 2000s.

Cosmetology students pamper princesses and moms

Seniors Samantha Davis, Paige Hamilton and Anisha Seitz braid and style the hair of young “princesses” at the third annual Party Like a Princess event, Friday evening, March 16.  The girls, along with nine others in the Cosmetology program at the Career Center, volunteered to help with this year’s event

Twelve juniors and seniors in the Career Center’s Cosmetology program took part in a service project designed to help young ladies learn the true meaning of beauty.  The third annual event:  Party Like a Princess, was coordinated by Coshocton Church of the Nazarene, and took place at Lake Park’s Pavillion, Friday evening, March 16.

Electronics student brings back bronze in math challenge

Bringing home the bronze medal at this years SkillsUSA regional contest for Related Technical Math was Joey Ervin, a senior in the IT Electronics program at the Coshocton County Career Center.  This contest was part of the SkillsUSA regional Skills Meet, which took place Saturday, March 10, at Buckeye Career Center in New Philadelphia.

Students visit up-scale Columbus salons, learn latest in spa therapies

Career Center Cosmetology junior Tymia Wilson allowed Spa School esthetician Dianne Shultz to perform microdermabrasion on her hand, while the other students in her program observe.

Juniors and seniors in the Cosmetology program at the Coshocton County Career Center were impressed to learn about personal services and the business at two of the most upscale salons in Columbus, during a day-long field trip.  Students visited both Charles Penzone’s Grand Salon at Polaris Parkway and Kenneth’s Hair Salon and Day Spa in Hilliard.  Additionally, the students learned what types of training and hands-on experience is required to work for one of these employers by visiting The Spa School, in north Columbus.

Career Center Early Childhood students sweep regional FCCLA contests, bring home gold

ECE junior Peggy Prince takes home the gold medal for Concept Curriculum at this years FCCLA Regional Skills Meet.  As the top scorer, Prince will advance to the state-level contest.

ECE juniors Kensey Freshwater, Brianna Foster, Katelyn Haines and Loren Morris bring home a gold medal for the ECE-Team Event at this year’s FCCLA Regional Skills Meet.  The team brought home the highest team score and will now advance to the state-level contest.

On Saturday, March 3, all seven of the Coshocton County Career Center’s FCCLA student competitors, representing the Early Childhood Education, earned gold medals at this year’s FCCLA regional skills competition.  Five of them, earned the top score and will now advance to compete at the state-level, April 18-19, in Columbus, having beaten competitors from C-TEC, Mid-East, Franklin Heights and Buckeye career centers.  Continue reading
