Students sort food, fill holiday boxes at Salvation Army

Career Center students [L-R] Skyler Luke, Logan Strain, Aaron King and Zach Lewinski pass a loaded food box down the assembly line set-up in the basement of the Coshocton Salvation Army.  In all, Career Center students, along with others from Coshocton, Ridgewood and River View high schools, sorted and packed 550 holiday food boxes for distribution to residents in need.

Juniors and seniors in Culinary Arts, Criminal Justice and Cosmetology spent this morning sorting donated food and filling holiday food boxes for community residents.  The effort was part of an annual community service project organized by the Coshocton Salvation Army.  In addition to students from the Career Center, other high schoolers, representing specific clubs from Coshocton, Ridgewood and River View high schools also took part.  In all, well-over one hundred students participated.

In all, well-over 100 students filled over 550 food boxes, which will be available for distribution to those in need, on Wednesday, December 21, beginning at 9:00 a.m.  “I’m glad I helped,” says Logan Strain, a senior in the Criminal Justice program.  “It’s for a great cause and is sure makes you feel good when you can help.”

“Without the Career Center’s help we would not be able to do what we do in a single morning,” says Captain Tricia Cornelius, who, along with her husband Captain John Cornelius, supervised the event.  She says the Salvation Army’s previously spend days doing the job that the students completed in about two hours.  “I am just to thankful for the help,” she continued.  “These teenagers have no idea how much these boxes help so many of our friends and neighbors.  It’s such an important part of our ministry to the community each year.”  She says approximately 2,000 people in the community will benefit from the donations and efforts of the students who helped.
